Random Word

Random Word technique is the simplest technique where a randomly picked word is used to generate new associations. By getting a random word and thinking how you can use is to solve your problem you are practically guaranteed to attack the problem from a different direction from that you would normally.
Another meaning, this technique provides a means of producing blind variation of ideas through the use of random word to produce a rich variety of unpredictable ideas.

How to make someone stop smoking in 6 months with random word; Traffic Light.

Green color indicates addicted. The first time you smoke, you will think that it is fine and you will get addicted to consume more cigarette.
Yellow color indicates disease. The more you consume cigarette, the more disease you will get.
Red color indicates death. The final disadvantage of smoking is death. A lot of people die faster because of smoking.
So if you see traffic light, think about it and you will remember that to stop smoking.

Mortar and Pestle

The lecturer asked me to find a few creative ideas with mortar and pestle as the objects.
Let see how it will be...

mortar and pestle as an alarm.
If you notice a danger, you can use mortar and pestle as alarm. Hit the mortar with pestle to make sound like a bell.

mortar and pestle as a sword and shield.

mortar and pestle as an equipment to train your balance in exercise.

mortar and pestle as candle holder.

mortar and pestle as a scoop.

Rules Of Mind Mapping

There are 7 rules to mindmapping so that the whole map will be more user friendly and more powerful, which are :

1. Central Image/ text

2. Branches organic in shape

3. Color

4. Branch Images

5. Write on the line

6. Landscape layout

7. Connect branches

This is week 6 and we talked about mind map. I have known mind map since I was a kid. Mind map has become one of the good methods on how to explain something in order for someone to understand better. Since I was in school until now, mind map is very familiar in my lessons. We need mind map to explain ideas, and I think mind map is the best way to explain something because it is easier to understand compared to other format. Since I'm in Creative Multimedia, I have been taught how to create a creative mind map. Generally, it is the same with other mind map, the difference is just creative mind map is more free, it is not out of the rules, but it is easier to do because creative mind map will depend on how creative it will be.

Juxtaposition

This is week 7, and we learnt Juxtaposition, a combination of something which related to other subject without getting of the track.

1 flower            0 head
2 lightning       9 rain
3 ice                  8 wood
4 light               7 tree
5 fire                 6 spider
6 duck              5 root
7 dog                4 mountain
8 oil                  3 wind
9 leaf                2 rock
0 fly                 1 water

1. 10 = flower & head = a girl put a flower in her head
2. 39 = ice & rain = the ice melted while it's raining
3. 91 = leaf & water = he put a mint leaves in the water

flower + head

Environment that Affect Your Creativity

Everyone has their own characteristics, and sometimes the character of a person will depend on the environment that he grows up.
In my opinion, every places in this world has its own way to affect our creativity. Another meaning, creativity can be created anywhere.
Based on my experience, my creativity will come out when I see something interesting, attractive, beautiful, and inspiring.
Usually the places that we can get inspiration to create creativity are the place that we feel comfortable in mind and soul. Place that we can relax, think about beautiful things, far from problem and burden, places that provide everything we want.
Besides that, the atmosphere is also an important factor to affect our creativity. Imagine if you try to get inspiration in places that are noisy, smelly or hot, you will feel uncomfortable of course. You cannot concern to your creativity and your mind will be blank. So, try to find environment that makes you feel relax and comfortable.
Not only the atmosphere, but also colors are very important to affect creativity. Our mind is very sensitive with colors. Based on my knowledge, some colors that will affect our creativity is red, blue, yellow and orange. Therefore, you can find environment which provide that colors.
In short, every places can affect your creativity, but again I will say that it depends on the person itself.
Everyone has their own way to get inspiration to find creativity.

The Process of Invention and Innovation

Nowadays, we are living in a new era. Creative ideas to invent things and  to bring innovation around the world can be found easily. I believe that now we are going to the 'instant' culture, where everything can be done instantly. Since technology grows rapidly, I'm a little bit worried about our life, and what will happen in the future. Does invention useful to us? or does innovation can change the world significantly?
First of all, we need to understand what are the meaning of invention and innovation. Refer to Wikipedia, invention is a unique or novel device, method, composition or process. It may be an improvement upon a machine or product, or a new process for creating an object or a result. Innovation is the development of new customers value through solutions that meet new needs, inarticulate needs, or old customer and market needs in new ways.
So, from now we can understand that invention is the most important product for scientific knowledge. On the other hand, innovation involves the use or development of an invention for some useful purpose.
Invention and innovation are growing together, they cannot be separated, but remember that they are still difference.
For better understanding, let me give you example about invention and innovation. Back to 5-10 years ago, people used to be a cellular phones user. Meaning to say that phones at that time were just ordinary phones. They did not provide a lot of features or applications. Moreover, back to 1973s, when the first hand phone has been invented, it was just for communication purpose. People did not even think about the features, applications or games on that phone. As technology grows rapidly, you can see nowadays, people are using smartphones. Smartphone is the innovation of ordinary phone.
Another example is Samsung company. Maybe they are not the first that invented touchscreen smartphones, but look at now a lot of people are buying their product. What makes Samsung product very interesting? In my opinion, they are maybe inspired by Apple company that has invented a very good smartphones that we called iPhone. But why Samsung can dominate smartphones market now is because they are dare to be different from Apple. They are dare to bring innovation. They invented some features and applications that you cannot find in Apple product. That is how Samsung use innovation and invention to bring different ideas.
In brief, invention and innovation cannot be separated with technology, since technology is the aggregation of all existing inventions and innovations.

Ken Robison's Opinion about Schools that Kill Creativity

Education has become an important part in our life. Children, teenagers, or adults, everyone needs education to improve their quality of life. Skills, attitude, mentality, spirituality, characteristics, knowledge, habits, they are all grow through education.
On that video, Sir Ken Robinson from 'TED Talks' gave his opinions about schools kill creativity. I believe that he has his own thoughts about that statement. In my point of view, I would say that I agree with him.
There are several reasons why do I agree with him. Firstly, I really like the comment that mentioned on the video says; "if you are not prepared to be wrong, you will never come out with anything original." I think that is true since if we are in schools, we forced to do something exactly right. Exams, assignments, exercises, all of them have to be good and reach the highest mark. I'm not saying that it is wrong. But to me, when people forced to be right, sometimes in their mind, they are afraid of being wrong. If this thing happens to the people continuously, day by day the creativity inside themselves will fade. Creativity needs spirit to express feelings, courage to do something, and idea to create something.
Besides that, everyone has their own characteristics. Everyone has their own dream, what they want to be. I believe that everyone has their own talents. To me, schools kill our own dream, our own creativity. Schools everywhere have same hierarchy. We need to follow the rules, study all the subjects and try to get marks. What I'm trying to say is actually we do not have to be that way, but in fact we forced to be like that. According to me, if people do not like to learn mathematics, you cannot force them. Maybe they are not good at that subject, but they are good at others. Just let them do what they want. That is why schools should change the perceptions. I prefer to create a million of creative people rather than creating professors.
On the other hand, schools are actually have positive advantages. People learn a lot of things there, grow together, share ideas, create relations and so on. From those things, creativity is also can be created.
In conclusion, I agree with Sir Robinson that schools kill creativity, but I also believe that sometimes schools help people to be creative.

5 Words That Describe Creativity and 5 Words that Not Related With Creativity

The class was quite well, even though I felt sleepy. We learnt about creativity.
This time, the assignment is to define creativity in 5 words, and that are not.

5 Words that describe creativity

First word that come out to my mind is ABILITY. I believe that creativity is related with ability, because creativity cannot be created without ability, whether it is in personal or group.

I believe that DIFFERENT is also related with creativity, because I think something cannot be described as a creativity if it is not different with other things.

Besides that, PROCESS is also related with creativity, since a creativity needs a process to create something extraordinary.

IMAGINATION is also can describe creativity because I believe that to create something different, you need an imagination to see things in a different way.

Finally, I come to the word VALUE. Creativity is related with value because creativity has a price, or in other way creativity is very precious.

5 Words that are not define creativity

Plagiarism, you cannot say it is creative if it is fake or not original.
Meaningless, do not say it is creative if it does not has value.
Instant, just like how to be success, there is no instant ways. To be creative, it needs process.
Narrow Thought, you need to see other's opinion.
Ancient, nowadays we are living in an innovative world. Be Creative!

Little Thing That Makes Me Curious

The assignment this time is to find out what is the function of this thing :

First when I saw that thing, I feel like I have seen it before. I tried to remember and finally I come to this thoughts :

It can be used on Pore Cleanser

I can be used at ink refill

1st Week at Creative Studies Class

That was the first day, first class at Creative Studies class at FCM.
On that day actually I did not come to class, because I have not registered yet, and I'm still waiting for my student visa approval, even until now.
Well, that I know the lecturer was Mr. Yap Sau Bin. Based on my friends' experience, the class was fun even though somehow it was a little weird. Mr. Yap has a good way to teach the students, he kept it simple, easy to understand.
What I dislike for the first week that we have got assignments. It made me stressed, but it was okay because that was a university life.

Question 1
How did the Titanic sink?

Well, I think it's because of fate.
